FAFSA Is Your Key to Paying for Higher Education

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA^®) is the form to get access to financial aid for college, including Pell Grants, loans, work study programs, state and institutional aid programs, need-based scholarships.

Usually, FAFSA opens October 1, but this year it will open on December 1. Get your application in the system as soon as possible because schools use it to determine what financial aid you are eligible for and some aid is first-come, first-serve. It is free to fill out an application, and high school seniors are eligible to create an account.

There is no specific income limit to apply for FAFSA. It does not affect your credit report.

FAFSA Information

You must fill out the FAFSA application every school year.
When you fill out the application, you will receive a Student Aid Index (SAI).
You are not obligated to attend any schools you list on the application.
You will need a social security number (SSN), driver’s license, Federal Income Tax returns, W-2s, other earned income records, bank and investment records,
Each student in the family will have his or her own Federal Student Aid ID (FSA ID).
Most students are dependent on their parents, so their parents will also have an FSA ID. Be careful not to confuse the two.
The deadline is June 30, but state colleges have earlier deadlines.
Your schools will send you a financial aid package. You decide which is best for you.
You must be enrolled at least half time in qualified degree or certificate program and have satisfactory academic progress, minimum GPA, and courses completed.
