Lifeline Prevents Human Trafficking Through Outreach and Awareness

By Lifeline Project LIFE

January is Human Trafficking Awareness Month, a time to focus on preventing exploitation and protecting vulnerable individuals. Human trafficking targets people of all ages and backgrounds, often hiding in plain sight. Early intervention and education are essential to breaking this cycle.

Lifeline Community Services’ Project LIFE (Living in Freedom from Exploitation) leads prevention efforts through education and outreach. By offering school presentations, workshops, and partnerships with local organizations, the program empowers youth and families to recognize trafficking warning signs and stay safe. Participants have achieved life-changing milestones, such as securing independent housing, enrolling in college, building healthy relationships, and engaging with their communities.

“Awareness is one of the most powerful ways to prevent trafficking,” says Project LIFE’s Outreach Coordinator. “We teach young people how to spot the signs and seek help.”

In addition to prevention, Project LIFE responds to immediate needs through community collaboration, ensuring survivors receive critical support. “When trafficking happens, timing is everything,” says a staff member. Jessica, a single mother of three who was trafficked from her preteens, is one example. With Project LIFE’s help, she prioritized her mental health, secured housing, and gained reliable transportation.

Everyone can help stop trafficking. Learn the signs, start conversations, and stay vigilant. To connect with Project LIFE, call 760-842-6526. For immediate assistance, contact the National Human Trafficking Hotline at 1-888-3737-888 or text BeFree (233733). In emergencies, call 911.

Through awareness and action, we can prevent trafficking and create a safer future for all.
