On Friday, November 14, Universidad Popular recognized more than 40 North County residents who passed their naturalization interviews and became U.S. citizens this year. These residents prepared for their tests by participating in Universidad Popular’s civics classes known as Cultivando Liderazgo (Cultivating Leadership).
The year-round program offers civics education, legal resources, language development, tutoring, and mentorship. Cultivando Liderazgo is free and open to the community.
Universidad Popular instructor and Co-Director Arcela Nunez-Alvarez stated, “This event is not only a celebration, but also the culmination of a year-long investment in our communities and families. It is a testament to the power of education, community, and participation in shaping a more inclusive democracy. Over the course of the past 10 years, over 4,000 community members have participated in our civics education and leadership programs, and many have become vital voices of their communities.”
