The La Colonia de Eden Gardens in Solana Beach dedicated a children’s playground at the community center, in honor of Cipriana Gonzalez, a community icon and leader.

The first community in Solana Beach was Mexican American, and Cipriana was the leader who held it together, taking a fight to preserve the local St. Leo’s Mission all the way to the Pope.
Cipriana fought for many years to get the La Colonia de Eden Gardens park installed. She also fought against school segregation and set up a scholarship fund for community children.
Mayor Lesa Heebner led the ribbon-cutting ceremony in front of community members and Cipriana’s son Tito Gonzalez.
