Marta Arroyo, the award-winning author of ‘Jorge and the Lost Cookie Jar’, is growing her popular program that fosters in children the love of reading. Marta shares colorful, bilingual books and illustrations with families in community centers in housing units through community rooms, sponsored by the Pacific Southwest Community Development Corporation (PSCDC). In an after-school program, she reads stories aloud to children, including her own books, such as her latest, ‘Polvorones’. The residents get two copies of the books for their community room library, and three copies are given as raffle prizes.
Marta also reads aloud to children in elementary classrooms in Carlsbad. “Reading to them, talking to them, and getting their feedback, it’s just really exciting when you’re talking to children,” she said.
